PUFFY SLEEVES

2018 swung back the eighties inspired fashion; The puffy sleeved clothes. Well this fashion trend rocked in the eighties so much. If you can remember (and if you can't, google can help here) the late Princess Diana, Duchess of Wales rocked a wedding gown with puffy sleeves. Trust me, it was the gown of the time. Most of the brides around that time till the early 90s sported the puffy sleeved wedding gowns.

Fashion trends never die out. They just go on a chill and come back with a big bang, better and more beautiful. In 2018 we saw the major come back of the puffy sleeves as blouses and dresses. They have been sported by many style influencers and bloggers. They are extremely stylish and trendy. The majority of the tops/blouses with the puff sleeves were of the off-shoulder trend. This just made them extremely comfortable and weather friendly. Not to forget they are very chicy. The secret with the voluminous sleeved outfits is in the exaggeration of your waist and/or hips

In this particular blog, I will be your very wonderful stylist. I am gladly going to give you a few tips on how to rock these puff sleeves in these very last days of its glory. Trust me, this puffy sleeve trend is here for not much longer than this year 2019. So lets rock it to the very best

Nancie Mwai, a Kenyan V-logger (first picture) rocked these pretty puffy sleeved tops in 2018 so well. She definitely had to the perfect person for me to use in this blog. One point you must note with these kinds of outfits is the length of the puffy sleeves. The longer the sleeves, the more free you should let the blouse/top be. Please do not tuck in tops that have long puff sleeves. You will look like...... (I won't say it). Then if you are doing loose/free tops, tight jeans or pants will flatter your body very nicely.  Well I have seen a few celebrities that have rocked the free tops with flared pants. This is good if you have a high sense of style and know exactly how to match the textures, colors and patterns.

I remember back in early 2000s these were called "kundi shows"... well its recently that they made a comeback and now we know that these are crop tops. These are very trendy. You can rock a crop top with a high waist pair of pants or skirt.

Let's talk dresses now. The 80s style mainly had the kind of dresses that hug that waist tight just like the dress Kendall Jenner rocked above for the Vanity Fair Gala. The point was to enhance the shoulders and arms with volume but also allow the tiny waist have full audience. If you have watched Pirates of the Caribbean 1 or FRIENDS (see the picture below), you must have noticed these dresses. So the trick here is the bigger the puff the more the dress should hug your waist and the smaller the puff, the lighter the body hug. I say this because i want you my ladies to look stunning and eye captivating. and not like an air balloon or a bouncing castle.

The other detail that you must put into consideration about the size of the puff for your sleeves, must be the material you are using. Chiffon and cotton don't make big puffs and they can be very comfortable especially in this dry season... East Africa gets me on this...😅. On the other hand satin fabric, khaki or crepe make for bigger puffs.

Ladies, let's rock these puffs.
